Utah County Furnace Repair · Utah County
What furnace repair costs in Utah County, and what to ask before you say yes
Free for homeowners · A real person reads every request · One local company gets it · Referral service, not a contractor
Short answer: Nationally, most furnace repairs cost $133 to $505, with an average of $318 (Angi, 2026). Furnace diagnostic fees run about $90 to $100, and minimum service-call fees $75 to $200 (HomeGuide). After-hours work can cost up to twice as much. We don’t have a Utah County-only price survey, so treat these as planning ranges, not quotes. A local company will quote your job for free when you send a request.
Common repairs, national ranges

|---|---|---|
| Flame sensor | $150 to $250 | about $80 to repair, $250 to replace |
| Igniter | $150 to $500 (top end is after-hours) | $100 to $250 |
| Thermostat | $100 to $600 | about $150 |
| Control (circuit) board | $200 to $600 | $300 to $650 |
| Gas valve | $200 to $600 | $200 to $800 |

| Heat exchanger | $500 to $1,500 to replace | $1,000 to $3,000 to replace |
The two guides disagree on some parts, which is normal for national averages. Use them to spot a quote that’s far outside both.
What pushes a bill higher
- After-hours calls. Angi puts emergency labor at $150 to $215 an hour, versus $50 to $150 for regular hours. If the house is safe and above freezing, ask about the next regular slot.
- Altitude setup. If the furnace was never set up for our elevation, a technician may recommend correcting it. Ask for that as a separate line item.
- Age. Angi says gas furnaces typically last 15 to 20 years and suggests replacing when repairs reach 30% to 50% of the cost of a new furnace. Past that point, compare against replacement.
Five questions before you approve a repair
- What’s the diagnostic or trip fee, and does it go toward the repair?
- Is that a flat price or time and materials?
- Is the part under the manufacturer’s warranty? Have the model and serial number ready.
- How old is the furnace, and would you repair it if it were yours?
- What’s your Utah license number? You can look up any contractor on the Utah Division of Professional Licensing lookup.
Fair questions
Is the quote over the phone binding? Usually not. Many companies won’t price a repair until they diagnose it in person. Ask whether the diagnostic fee is credited if you hire them.
Should I just replace it? Not automatically. A $250 flame sensor on a 7-year-old furnace is a repair. A failed heat exchanger on a 20-year-old furnace is usually a replacement conversation.
